zombie-apocalypseThink Burn Zombie Burn, think about dual joystick shooters, think about zombie killing. Now add a good selection of weapons, add different characters, add different locations, make those locations dangerous – like spinning helicopter blades, and car crushers.
Add rescue missions, add a good dose of humour, and finally add pink, cute cuddly teddy bears stuffed with C4.
What do you get?
Zombie Apocalypse.
Now this offers little new in the shoot ‘em up genre, nothing new at all. It’s all been done before, yep!
But then why is it so much more fun to play than almost all the others like it?
I honestly dont know, maybe it’s just fun, maybe it’s the humour, maybe it’s because it’s challenging in different ways, maybe it’s because you’re killing zombies?
I think maybe it’s all of the above and more.
Graphically, it’s pretty good, but nothing ground breaking, it does run very smoothly, but then again it’s made my Konami and they’ve had a bit of practice. The sound and music is spot on too, a little bit chilling, just a few piano chords playing over and over again.
The incidental sound effects are cool though, listening to a zombie getting crushed or getting chopped up is both ‘funee’ to see and hear.
The game play is nothing new either, it’s a shoot ‘em up, and we’ve all played them before. It’s a two joystick controller game too, so left stick moves the character, while the right stick wields the finality that zombies need.
But one thing that does stand out, and it’s the one thing that you’ll never tire of, it’s the pink fluffy teady bears.
They are loaded with C4 and zombies love them, they want to cuddle it, and it wants to help them acheive the after life.
Throw it into an open are and zombies will flock to it like men around Katie Price. Only Jordan is’nt stuffed with c4, or at least I dont think thats C4 in her boobs.
The ensuing explosion is worth a bit of hassle you might get leading upto the throwing. It’s awsome what C4 can do, it’s just a damn shame you only get one of these C4 ‘Smart Bombs’ at once.
There’s a great online multiplayer section that just works brilliantly, and an offline mode for when your mates are around.
You all share one screen too, so no squinting at the tv.
You also get to play 4 different characters, while they dont have different abilities, they do have their own styles.
All four have a background story to tell to…
1. Mall Cop
2. Hardcore Gamer
3. Schizophrenic Athlete
4. Medical School Drop out

Now for the trophy whores, there is some bad news, there’s no Platinum :( but there’s plenty of bronze and silverware to be proud of. And you can be proud, the levels just keep coming. There’s 45 days to play in standard mode, and the a further 7 in ‘7 days of Hell’, and it is hell, it took me hours to complete the full 45, then another 4 hours to complete the final 7. But it’s worth it.
It does drag a little at times with some days offering little new to shoot at, and others being damn near impossible to complete in one life. The bosses are damned hard too especially the last one. I must’ve wasted 20 lives completing that little bitch. Still, you get to continue exactly from where you left off, and with 3 new lives to go at, and a pink fluffy teddy bear too.
The list of trophies:
Envirnmental awareness: Kill a zombie using an evironmental hazard in any game mode.
Gas powered: Complete an entire arena, getting every kill with the chainsaw.
Gun Shop: Kill at least one zombie with each weapon type in any game mode.
The more the merrier: kill 10 or more zombies at the same time in any game mode
Socialite: Play an online multiplayer game.
Tour the City: Complete each arena in the same game in any game mode.
Can’t touch this: Rack up a 100x Multiplyer.
Friends in low places: Save 25 survivors in any game mode.
Interior Decorator: Kill 25 zombies in any game mode using environmental hazards
A week to live: Complete 7 days without dying, in any game mode.
Hotter than Hell: Complete the 7 days of hell game mode.
Anniversary of the dead: Complete the final day, in either single or multiplayer and finsh the game.

Conclusion:
Ok, it brings nothing new to the table, but for some reason, it really is a brilliant game to play.
So it gets a bit stale now and again, and sometimes just a bit too tough, but it has lasting potential and is great fun to play.
The sound effects and music are spot on and makes the game feel eerie
It might not have the legs to last for months at a time, but you will find yourself playing it months after you completed it, and it’s a blast with mates around.

I’ll give it an 8 out of 10.
