PS3 Jailbreak, A Breakthough for Mankind and Homebrew, a set back for Sony

Over the past few weeks, there has been a number of attempts and reports of the Console: Sony PS3 Being hacked.
Hacked being a feature that will let you run Unsigned Code on the PS3, And this can lead to Homebrew Application, Backup Managers / Loaders.

As great as it sounds, Sony have thought there way though this like a WAR, they have taken a Number of companies to Court in Australia and Won, and a heading over to USA to take a Reseller on too.

While all this was Happening, the PS3 Hack (Jailbreak) Was re-engineer and make available as Open Source.
Things took a worse turn for Sony,
As this was made available as Open Source, people started to port this onto a Number of Devices to run on the PS3,
Like the USB Development Boards under X ChipsetsNokia N900, The Nexus One and Desire, A Calculator.
There really is no Stopping it, Until today that is, Sony released a Patch to Stop the PSJailbreak / PSGroove form running on there Console.
As quick Sony is putting a stop to it, There is work around, to still get online and play on your PS3 on the PSN Network, running and older version of the Firmware.

So what does all this mean
,
Is this the start of something wonderful for the PS3, and when i say wonderful where talking in light of Home-brew and HD Game Playback Functions.
Or is this a start of a Never ending War of Bans, Patches and Mods.

What ever way we look at it, Sony could resolve this Very easy, and stop the endless wars and attacks on there console,
All they need to do, is take a little look at that Xbox we all love / Or Not
Let people install there Games onto there Harddrive, Internal Or External, (People can Upgrade there HD)

Look at it this way, If Sony have some sort of Playback Function from the Harddrive, and people can Backup or Install there Games on there Harddrive (on the Internal one that is, That is Encrypted and makes abusing this system a little harder) Then people would not go to such lengths to mod the PS3.

Out of Experimental, i done a little Test using the Open Source PSgroove,
I was able to use this on a Tweeny Development Board, and also on a HTC Desire,
It was a Very easy process to setup and get up and running in no time.

I was able to backup all my games in no time
And i could sit on my seat and change games as often as i like without the Horrible Crunching noise from the Blueray Drive, and not leaving my seat to change the Disc
On another bright side if your PS3 dies and you only have a rubbish disc in to run the Loader like Unreal Tournament, you loose nothing really.

I was able to Play Mafia 2 (II) on my PS3 using the Backup Manager (PSGroove) Demon's Souls, Battlefield Bad Company 2,
No issues at all :-)

But Yes there is two sides to every story, so Lets look at Sonys Side, Piracy FACT1 thats all they care about Loss in money.
people can say as they like, it does not touch the surface, Piracy makes no difference to the Developers,
Well in all fairness if you belive this well your kinda Stupid "No Offence"

Look at this from something Basic, I make a Program and Sell 100 Copies at £10 per License, i make £1000,
If someone cracks it and gives it out for free, i sell 50 copies at £10 per license i make £500,

Thats almost Half, Now i know its nothing like that on scale, its more like 1% - 5% of that market who are into Piracy and effect the market.
But A loss is a Loss how ever you look at it! and a Gain is a Gain.

If Sony spend as much effort and time in to Stopping Jailbreaks / Modders and actually implemented some of the ideas these guys are trying to achieve, you would of just stopped a massive % of people trying to crack your system.

Some Features As Such:
Video Playback MKV Support
More Visualisations for Music Playback
TV Playback  ITV Player, Channel 4 Player, Channel 5 Player
Backup Manager / HD Loader / Install Games to Harddrive
Cross Game Chat.

These features being the Most Requested features from Day 1 and never get implemented.

Add them Sony before a Modder Does!!
