So in the meantime, practice drifting. What do you mean “whats drifting”?

Drifting is the art of going sideways around corners without using the brake to slow down.
Do it right, you earn boost, get it seriously right, and you can earn tons of boost and points.

So how do you do it?
Dead easy, turn left or right, hit X to jump, and keep pressing X.

Try it in the lobby, like this:

So now you know how to do it, download my Drift KING track:

Well, I’ve now played the first 5 or six levels, and it’s not getting any tougher, just more enjoyable.
Ok, so it is moderately harder, but not much.
The level design is nothing short of superb, the flow from side to side and puzzle to puzzle is amazingly smooth.
You need to be very aware of your environment, not like a first person shooter, but still aware or whats above, below and at the side.

The time to complete each one too is another brilliant facet, you need to take about 5 minutes and more to complete each stage. But it never gets dull either.
I’m pretty sure that once I do get deeper into the game, it will get harder, but for now, it’s easy but not boring.
In fact, the more I play it, the more I discover, and thats where this game differs from many others like it, it feels like a version of super mario without being a platformer.
I think it’ll have plenty of replayabilty (that must be in the OED?) because you miss things the first time around, and it’s great trying to find them the second or third time around.

The controls are also a hell of a lot easier than Gravity Crash or moonlander type games too, so you wont need to buy new joypads because you were frustrated, and it only takes a minute or two to get used to them. With 2 different weapons to use, and 2 different types of thrust too. The main weapon is like a bullet type thingumy, then the next is like rockets, just hold the fire button for the rockets. BUT not for too long, your ship overheats if you fire too many rockets, and you crash and burn.
The left joystick is for manouvering the ship, while the right points it in the direction you want to fire, but if you hold both on the direction you want to move, you move there with more thrust.

So, what do you have to do?
You have to save scientists who have created this underground world in the search for minerals and energy sources. Only trouble is, they did’nt see the dangers, and now they’re stuck. It’s upto you to get them out to safety. Or kill them. But I would’nt think that thats a good idea. I’ve killed a few accidentally, and while you can still finish the level, I assume killing them all is a bad thing.

Along the way you’ll find help in different guises, one of which is the water slug. If you pick it up and drop it on lava it unleashes a massive torrent of water and solidifies the lava and lets you pass safely. Another very usefull and re-usable tool, is the sponge. Drop it in a lake, let it collect the water, then pick it up again and carry it to where it’s needed. It will leak like a sponge too, so cooling lava as it goes. Both are replenished by a plant, so if you loose/destroy one of them, go back, and you’ll find another.

The graphics wont win awards, but they do exactly what you need them to do, differentiate different substances. Still they water does look and feel awesome.
The sound is spot on, but the background music is brilliant and a good range of different tracks too. Seeing as PJMonsters and PJEden had downloadable soundtracks, dont be surprised if this one does’nt too.
BUT it’s very very quiet, you really need to crank up the grammy (sound) to hear what I’m I mean.

So far, I’m well impressed, I’m seriously loving this game. For how long depends on the difficulty, and how much more there is to complete it. But if it’s anything like PixelJunk Monsters, then the longevity will be counted in months rather than hours or days.

For £6.29 its an absolute bargain. And deserves a VERY HIGH rating.

Actual Gameplay video:

You’ve seen the video above, well, I’ve also created a slide show.

Me (Dazbobaby AKA theDAZBOMEGATRON), Symonator, and Astrozombie1, have all had this piece of capture equipment for some time now, so we know what it’s like, how it works, and how well it does it’s job.
First, let me describe the hardware:
Well, it’s a sleek dark gray box, it has standard video and audio inputs at the front, a power light, and a remote control. DOH!, you can see the picture for yourself.
It’s quite small for what it does, it’s about a quarter of the size of a SKY+ box. So there, now you know how big it and how it looks. Well, not entirely, but we’ll come to that.
I use it exclusively for capturing video from my PS3. I used to have a black magic intensity pro, which did a brilliant job, only problem with that, my PC was’nt fast enough to cope with the data rates, audio, and compression on the fly.
Let me say that the Hauppauge does ALL of that for you. Then it will pass the video and audio over to the pc at a rate that even a low end pc should manage. You see, it compresses the video for you. But even though it does hard work, the files can still be HUGE. A 10 minute video can still reach sizes of upto 1 gigabyte. You can vary the amount of compression too, you have a choice in bit rates, using a simple slider. I find that 5 megabits is fine for virtually any video source, for local playback and uploading to youtube. 8 megabits is better for local playback only, and if you record from say SKY HD, it’s probably a good idea not to go much higher. You can if you really want to, if you record from a HD camcorder for example, you could up it all the way to 13.5 megabits, but you’ll need a MASSIVE hard drive.
One other thing you can do with it is capture screen shots, you can’t do it from the capture programme, you need to run the playback programme to screen grab. Thats something else too, it comes with Arcsoft Total Media Extreme, a pretty good piece of software. It will convert, playback and grab everything the HD-PVR will throw at it. You will need a different programme if you want to edit any video’s that you create. I use Sony Vegas Pro, it’s small, but does everything I need.
When you do capture, and lets face it, you dont spend £150+ for a box to just sit there doing nothing, you’ll be treated to a fair bit of noise, because it has a built in dedicated H.264 processor, it needs a fan to keep this bad boy cool, and that can make quite a noise, not so much that you cant hear the tv, but enough to cause a distraction. Still the “BLING” does make up for it.

Wiring up the HD-PVR is a piece of cake, and it also comes with high quality component cables to connect to your TV.

With inputs at the bottom and outputs at the top, and a TOS-LINK fibre optical in and out for the audio.
Not forgetting the standard components at the front, with an svideo, you’ve probably got all options covered.

Pro’s:
Small, light, compresses for you, adjustable bit rates, optical audio, 5.1 capture, recoding software if you need it, you can disable the “BLING”, good quality component cable included, remote control, plenty of different recording sources, and excellent capture quality.
Con’s:
Can make a fair amount of noise, remote for me has never worked, slight 2 second delay in capture (zero delay on the TV pass through, so gaming is still fun), no live screen grab.

I have’nt listed the price as a disadvantage, because if you’re looking for HD capture, you know you are going to be paying a chunk of change. Despite the price tag, I think it’s a good price to pay as it really is a good piece of kit, all three of us swear by it. And that should be enough to persuade anyone to buy this over anything else.
One word of warning though, do check your HD equipment before you run out and buy anything, some SKY HD boxes only carry HDMI out, and NOTHING can record HDMI with HDCP (high definition copy protection) turned on.
Thanks for reading.
It does get harder, but the early missions are just training for this, and you’ll need it.
One user in particular – Josnat5 who has stolen mine, Symonators and Astrozombie1 video’s.
Now I have put in a complaint about copyright infringment, and so far YouTube has done nothing to resolve the matter, maybe it’s time for a DMCA takedown notice?
One thing to note, josnat5 has created ZERO video’s, he literally steals from others and passes the video off as his own.
Another thing to note, I upload RAW unedited footage, I do this to show that I am a great gamer, and that I get my arse kicked too (occasionally)
I am now having to go through the lengthy process of watermarking all my video’s from now on.
This can mean that my laptop will sit rendering video’s for hours on end, then I still have to upload. Part of the problem is that all my Video is in HD, so it takes even longer, and they’ll have a blatant watermark too – this is not cool.
This pratt takes other people’s video, passes them off as his own, then youtube do nothing about it. Sorry for creating video’s that now look sucky.

PlayStation®Network Video Delivery Service for Europe Now Available on PlayStation®3 and PSP™(PlayStation®Portable)
More than 2000 movies available, to rent or to own, at the click of a button

LONDON – 19th November 2009: Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) further expanded its PlayStation® entertainment experience today with the launch of the PlayStation®Network video delivery service for Europe. Now available in France, Germany, Spain and the UK, with other countries to follow in 2010, the service allows film fans to download hundreds of movies, including the latest releases, straight to their PlayStation®3 (PS3™) and PSP™ (PlayStation®Portable).

More than 2,000 movies are available across the stores to rent (from €1.99) or to buy (from €7.99), many in High Definition* (HD) as well as Standard Definition (SD), from major movie studios including 20th Century Fox, The Walt Disney Company1, Lionsgate2, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. (MGM), Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures, Starz Media2, Universal, and Warner Bros. The service also provides a broad selection of content from local market studios including ContentFilm International, E1 Entertainment UK and Optimum Releasing (UK), and Constantin Film, Kinowelt and Universum Film (Germany), MK2, EuropaCorp, Pathé, SND and Wild Side Video (France) and Vértice Cine (Spain).

Titles available within the launch window include Angels and Demons; Bruno; Disney/Pixar’s Cars; Walt Disney Pictures’ The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe; Crank 2; The Dark Knight; Dead Space: Downfall; Drag Me to Hell; Gran Torino; Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix; National Treasure; Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl; Public Enemies; Star Trek; Terminator Salvation; Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen; and Valkyrie; and X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Additional content will be added on a weekly basis.

“The launch of the PlayStation Network video delivery service extends our entertainment offering and provides consumers with another way to access their favourite movies, whether at home or on the go,” said Andrew House, President and CEO, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. “With the choice of content constantly expanding, including full games, bite-size downloadable “minis” games, demos and now movies too, the PlayStation Network is the gateway to a world of entertainment.”

At launch, there will be a special offer for existing PSN members, allowing them to receive a complimentary copy of The Da Vinci Code if they buy Angels and Demons. There will also be a special promotion to encourage new members. Anyone who registers for a PlayStation®Network account using their new PS3s between 19th & 30th November 2009 will receive a voucher to download a complimentary copy of Transformers to own3.

Located on the PlayStation®Store under the “Video Store” section, the PlayStation Network video delivery service provides consumers with an exceptional entertainment experience, adding HD and SD movies for rental or purchase, to the already comprehensive line-up of games, demos, trailers and other content.

The video delivery service will be fully integrated within the PlayStation Network, using the same log-in, wallet system and user-interface. Visitors can search for movies by name, or can browse categories such as “new releases”, “genres” and ”most popular downloads”. PS3’s progressive downloading allows viewers to start watching a film shortly after the download begins. They can also access certain games or other content on their PS3 while the download is taking place.

Consumers who choose to rent have up to 14 days to watch their movie, and, once playback is started, they have 48 hours to watch the content. Purchased movies are stored on the PS3 hard disk drive and can be accessed at home via PS3 or transferred to PSP for content on the go.

The PlayStation Network video delivery service takes prime position in a line-up of PlayStation entertainment features, alongside streaming music video with VidZone®, Catch Up TV services and free digital TV viewing with PlayTV™. With games, music, Internet, photos, communications and more, it’s yet another reason to make PS3 and PSP the heart of your entertainment world. To find out more, visit http://www.eu.playstation.com http://www.eu.playstation.com

* Initially HD content will only be available to rent

1 Content only available to rent or to buy in the UK and to rent in Germany at launch

2 Content from these studios will be available only in the UK

3 The promotional code will be sent to eligible customers in December 2009.

As you’ll see, you play an undercover special agent, who is teamed up with some Russian bad guys.
Your job is to infiltrate and help them to assasinate several hundred innocent civilians getting ready to fly off on their holidays.
Activision have made is so you can choose to play or not to play this level, without affecting the outcome of the game.
Still damned contraversial if you ask me.
The video does work, I promise you, there is a black screen for 18 second.
